Danette Conard

Mrs. Danette Conard is a UTSA graduate flute student under the instruction of Dr. Rita Linard. She graduated summa cum laude from Southwest Texas State University—San Marcos in 1998, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree with Texas lifetime teaching certification. While at SWT, she studied flute with Dr. Adah Jones and piano with Dr. Timothy Woolsey and Mrs. Frances Webb. She was flute section leader in the Bobcat marching band and Symphonic Band. Danette also performed in the jazz, mariachi, and steel drum bands. Furthermore, she was accepted into the prestigious music honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda.  Danette is one of the founding members of the San Antonio Flute Choir and frequently performs with harpist, Margarita Farias, for local weddings. She has performed in a master class for Jim Walker and has attended master classes taught by Jean-Pierre Rampal, Carol Wincenc, Rhonda Larson, and Paul Edmund-Davies. Most recently, Danette performed with the Fiesta Flute Choir and Sonora Flute Ensemble at the National Flute Association convention held in Albuquerque, NM.  Mrs. Conard has seven successful years of experience teaching both band and piano at the secondary school level, and her classes are always very popular with the students.  As a teacher, her primary focus is getting the students to enjoy and appreciate music. Students under her leadership will learn theory, sight-reading, technique, and performance skills. The majority of her flute and piano students receive superior ratings in solo and ensemble competitions.  Her professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educator’s Association, the Texas Bandmaster’s Association, and the National Flute Association. During the summer, she is a teaching assistant at the UTSA Flute Camp. Danette has been a guest musician on several albums, and she recently posted her original contemporary piano compositions on discrevolt.com.
